Research Areas

The INTEG-RNA project focused on the following research areas:

1) Epigenetic mechanisms in the regulation of gene expression, chromatin assembly, genome stability and telomere homeostasis

  • Structure, evolution and maintenance of telomeres and their roles in chromosome stability, DNA repair and plant speciation. Telomerase complex composition and function
  • The role of RNA in DNA Repair

2) RNA processing and RNA modifications

  • RNA editing/modifying enzymes and innate immuity.
  • Crosstalk with RNA modification
  • The mechanisms and functions of internal and terminal RNA modifications mostly in mammalian systems

3) Building Machine Learning models for identification of functional binding rules (miRNA:mRNA and RBPs)

  • Analysis of RNA-binding proteins in the context of viral infections
  • Sequence-specific recognition of single-stranded RNA by RNA-binding proteins
  • Systematic measurements of mutational effects in RNA and proteins

4) Single-cell RNAseq and miRNA+mRNAs seq

  • The role of noncoding RNAs
  • Mechanistic effects of coding sequence mutations in gene regulation
  • Bioinformatics of GENE sequencing and quantitative proteomics data
